(OPMF = Other People’s Mom Food)

Want to help us out, my darlings? Christine of Night Stirrings (Twitter: @NightStirrings) and I are looking to recreate a fave from her childhood that also happens to be a fave of my partner Guy: Butter brickle ice cream (Christine writes it as one word: Butterbrickle. Which is it?)

I don’t remember what the stuff tasted like, so Christine and Guy will have to be the taste-testers, but I’m good at adjusting things to change the qualities of them, so I can play a role in the testing and development phase (and I get to eat some, too, right?)

What’s your favorite recipe for this old-fashioned ice cream? Christine prefers it with a lot of brickle in it, so if you have a recipe for the brickle itself, that’s cool too!

I run The Mom Food Project, which was born out of love for my mom and a desire to preserve the recipes of my childhood, which didn't actually exist in written form until I quizzed my mom and wrote the recipes down.

  1. At Friendly’s (a northeast food/ice cream chain), they call it butter crunch (two words). It’s one of my favorites.
