March will be a tight month Chez Serene. Between the IRS, the hotel room for FOGcon, and my regular bills, the paycheck is being eaten up.
In addition, my mom wants me to clear out the freezer and pantry because she wants to fill them up again when she comes to visit in a couple of weeks. (Hold your mockery; food shopping is how we entertain ourselves! If it were not so, this blog might not exist.)
This is a perfect time to share my pantry-cooking skills with y’all, so March is Pantry Cooking Month around here.
I have been told, both by my first and current live-in partners, that I have an uncanny knack for making food out of whatever’s in the house. It’s a fun game for me, and it has a few great benefits:
- Using up the stuff you’ve been stockpiling means you can clear out things that aren’t fresh and make room for things that are
- Also, you can use things that may be fine now, but have been around a while and may be nearing the end of their shelf life
- Sometimes it’s just fun to cook with things you haven’t used in a while
- And of course, your food budget will PLUMMET for the period in which you’re cooking from the pantry
Pantry Cooking Month has few rules, but the basic gist is to base most meals on foods from the pantry, thus buying fewer new food items. When we’re really really really broke, we cut back on things like fresh produce, etc., but things aren’t that dire this month. Sometimes, I forbid myself from buying anything but fresh produce and bread flour, but I’m not going that far this month. I’m just focusing on as much pantry food as possible.
Tomorrow, meal plans and pantry lists. Ideas for recipes and tips for low-cost cooking are, as always, welcome.

Simply put, traits are certain characteristics that humans have behavior patterns, the ability to react to certain situations in a particular way; and more importantly physical attributes. It is what makes all of us human in the true sense. Interestingly, there are certain traits that we inherit, while some others we acquire. This happened in Eyjafjallaj Fake Oakleys
